Hi there everybody, my name is Camilla and they asked me to speak to you today about moving into my new place. Here it goes…
First question, Can you describe the Milanese Vibe?
Uh, when people think about Milan, the first thing that comes to mind is fashion. Italy has a long-standing tradition when it comes to fashion as it hosts several fashion shows all year round. And yes, during those weeks the city is flooded with models and fashionistas, and the idea of getting out of the house without your hair done feels like a nightmare, um but I think Milan is much more than that and it is also the country’s industrial and economic heart, uh the Stock Exchange is headquartered in a beautiful building downtown and the new financial districts of Garibaldi and Porta Nuova make you feel like living in a real international city.
Second question, Why did you decide to move out of your old place?
Um, I moved out of my parent’s house about 8 years ago but I’ve always split rent with flatmates. I had been thinking about buying an apartment for a while. They say now it’s the perfect moment to do so, interest rates are quite low which means that taking out a mortgage these days is smarter than paying rent. Plus, I turned 30 earlier this year so everything seemed to fall into place.
Third question, What’s it like living alone?
Um, I’m gonna say it’s great, because it is. I’ve always had amazing flatmates, but after so many years I just wanted a place to finally call home. Uh, sometimes living alone is bittersweet, because after a long day coming back to an empty house can be hard. I don’t like cooking, nor eating alone, which makes me go out even more than I used to and that’s a good thing. Decorating the place has been great too. I chose every little detail and piece of furniture and it has been a very creative moment of my life.
So, this is Camilla for Learning English Matters. Thank you for listening
